The AYARKUT AIR Art Residency program

The AyarKut Foundation launches an open competition for applications for participation in three international art residencies in Yakutsk.

The three residencies of the program – Indigenous Knowledge, & Soundscape of the Arctic and In dialogue with Nature - are primarily aimed at analyzing the local Yakut environment and its development. One of its tasks is to establish a dialogue with both narrow professional community and wide audience.

The residence provides an opportunity for artists to visit Yakutsk within the framework of an individual plan required for the implementation of the project, immerse themselves in local cultural, scientific and natural contexts, find themselves in a new environment of the Sakha Republic.

Yakutia, or the Sakha Republic, is the largest region of Russia by territory and one of the largest administrative units in the world. At the same time, in terms of population, Sakha remains one of the most sparsely populated territories. Yakutia also is one of the most

isolated and inaccessible regions of the world in terms of transport: 90% of the territory does not have year-round transport links.

Who is it for: Artists working with painting, sculpture, graphics, photo and video, installation, public art, land art, new media, research-based art, science art, sound art, music, as well as curators and researchers in the humanities over the age of 18. Individual or collective participation is possible (up to 3 people).

Duration: The duration of the residence is 1 or 2 months to choose from.

The residency aims to support these writers to produce up to five responses during their residency, with workload adapted to support more ambitious activities within the project accordingly. It is aimed at writers who are seeking an opportunity to explore their experimental critical voices and have their practice engaged with across Jerwood Arts’ audience and extended networks.

There are two Jerwood Writer in Residence opportunities in 2022. Each residency is six months long and responds to two of three exhibitions.

Who is it for: Applicants must be living and working in the UK, be outside formal education at the time of application and throughout their chosen residency period and must be able to demonstrate at least one year's track record of professional writing practice but not yet be regularly contributing to established arts publications. Benefit: Writers will receive a £1,500 fee, a £300 mentoring budget and a £500 production budget.
