Artist Of The Month For February 2022: Nuria González Alcaide

A self-taught artist from Barcelona, Spain, Nuria González Alcaide works in genres as diverse as painting, screen printing, and digital art. Known for her abstract works, Nuria uses art as a medium to express her innermost emotions in their raw intensity.

She feels that day-to-day human existence gets entrapped in unquestionable mundane rituals. Hence, our society fixes us into little trap-boxes and somehow, in the process, we forget the real us. It is this forgotten undercurrent of our deepest emotions and impulses that Nuria González explores through her art.

Spontaneous and charged, one realises that her practice in abstraction is a constant experiment with texture and many hues. She manages this technical feat through mediums, layers, and the scratch technique. Nuria also plays around with the size of the canvas. Exploring the concept of space, its relationship with its immediate surroundings and the dynamics of interconnectedness between the subject and their environment becomes a crucial subject of her paintings.

The works of Nuria González Alcaide have been exhibited at group shows in places like Madrid, Monaco, and London. At the same time, she has also been a part of virtual exhibitions in the U.K., U.S., and Spain.
